仮想定規

2016年旗揚げ。全編オリジナルの作詞・作曲を土台に「日本発信のオリジナルミュージカル」を世界に届けることを目標に、多様なジャンルで活躍してきたメンバーが結集したミュージカル集団。  

青木砂織の脚本・演出と、ほんだまことの劇音楽を主軸に言語を越えるエンターテインメントを作り続けている。

2016年の旗揚げ公演「仮想定規　ー序の章ー」は、岸田國士戯曲賞作家である佃典彦（劇団B級遊撃隊）が原作を書き下ろし。砂漠化した「世界に現存するもうひとつのサイタマ」を舞台にカッサカサでエネルギッシュな和製ミュージカルを展開し、この劇団の船出を明示した。

2017年、スコットランド・エジンバラフリンジ上演作品「The GATE」では日本の民間伝承の童謡を巡る物語を描き、極彩色のジャポニズムを纏った祝祭のようなダンスシアターは、“息をのむような”、“魔法のような”、“ダークな”、“まるでジェットコースター！”と評され、次年度以降の活動へと着実に繋がっていく。  

以降、2018年スコットランドツアー（エジンバラ、フィンドホーン）、2019年国内ツアー（東京、岩手）、2020年アメリカツアー（ニューハンプシャー、ニューヨーク）に加え、ライブ形式の番外編スピンヲフ公演、ワークショップ行脚も行い精力的に珍道中を拡大中。

トランクに入れて運べるオリジナルの折り畳み舞台美術の開発をはじめ、ミニマムかつ安全な海外巡業を行うためのノウハウを構築蓄積中。また全ての作品において国内でも英語字幕上演にこだわり、常に海外公演を前提に活動している。  

KASO JOGI

Launched in 2016, Kaso Jogi is a musical theatre group that brings together experienced professionals active in various aspects of the arts with the common goal of bringing made-in-Japan musicals with completely original scripts and music to the world.

Kaso Jogi creates entertainment that transcends language, with musical theatre written and directed by Saori Aoki and music composed by Makoto Honda.

The 2016 debut performance, “Kaso Jogi -An Introductory Chapter-” was written by Norihiko Tsukuda (of B-kyu Yugekitai), winner of the Kishida Prize for Drama. Set in a desertified Saitama (but not that Saitama), it was an energetic Japanese-style musical that set the course for this theater company.

In 2017, Kaso Jogi travelled to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe to perform “The GATE” – a story based on Japanese folklore nursery rhymes in a festival-like dance theater package. This was described as “breathtaking”, “magical”, “dark”, and “a rollercoaster ride!” This first overseas tour was a prime example of starting as you intend to go on.

Since then, Kaso Jogi has had the 2018 Scotland tour (Edinburgh, Findhorn), the 2019 Japan Tour (Tokyo, Iwate), and the 2020 US tour (New Hampshire, New York), in addition to concert-style spinoff performances and workshop activities.

Kaso Jogi is always working at how to conduct a safe overseas tour with minimal equipment, developing original folding stage art that can be carried in a standard suitcase. Kaso Jogi also displays English subtitles in all performances, even in Japan, and all plays are designed with the intention that they will be performed overseas.

主宰である青木がかつて海外で自身の演出作品を上演した際、終演後の帰り道で一人の外国の少女が母親に手をひかれながら、先程聞いたばかりの公演のラストナンバーを楽しそうに口ずさんでいるシーンに遭遇した。日本語のわからないその少女が耳から覚えた曲を鼻唄で歌っているその場面に、かつて自身が子供だった頃に外国の映画や舞台に出会ってわくわくしながら口ずさんでいる姿を重ねて見ていた。

「世界の子供に届ける」そのために音楽の持つ言葉を超える力を信じ、舞台作りをしています。

子供とは＝かつて子供だったあなた へ伝えたいという信念と子供は本物にしか反応しないというシビアさを念頭に置いています。

そしてなにより大事にしているのは3.11の東日本大震災の経験から感じた。人は本当にしんどい時、食べ物　暖かい毛布　医療　安全　……のあと、心が何より辛くなる。その時に文化や芸術や音楽の役割は「寄り添う」ことも大事だが「まだ見ぬ世界への驚きと興味」を奮い立たせることがなにより他者へ生きる力を与えられると信じています。

I once performed in an overseas production of my own work and encountered the sight of a local girl walking home with her mother after the show, happily humming the last number. The sight of a girl who doesn’t understand Japanese singing a song that she learned by ear was overlaid in my mind with the excitement I personally experienced as a child when I encountered a foreign movie or play.

We believe in a power beyond words that is in music and we use this when creating our shows, to reach the children of the world.

By children, I mean all people who once were children. We know that children have the most critical eyes of all, because they only respond to what is genuine.

Most importantly, I learned something from the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 11, 2011. When people are really in a tough situation, after they secure food, warm blankets, medical safety, and so on, what really suffers is their spirit. This is why culture, art, and music is important, as it helps us to be close to one another. Even more, I believe that inspiring a surprise and interest in the unseen world is what can give people the power to continue living.
